"Jenny Sealey and the Graeae team have had a pivotal role in raising the profile of disabled writers and performers, and in bringing their expertise to mainstream theatre."

Standing ovation at recent performance of Reasons to be Cheerful

Arts Council England

We receive core funding from the Arts Council and we recently received confirmation of funding for a further three years (2012-15).  This funding pays for our central running costs, including some staff and a contribution towards our core programme of work.  However, the funding does not cover the costs of all activities and we therefore need to fundraise for both our artistic and learning programmes.

Funders

In addition to our core funding from Arts Council England, we receive support from a number of charitable trusts, foundations and businesses towards:

Bradbury Studios
In 2008 we launched an ambitious appeal which raised over £350,000 from trusts and foundations.  Completed in June 2010, we received support from the Bradbury Studios, including the Bradbury Foundation, Clothworkers’ Foundation, John Ellerman Foundation, Equity Trust Fund, The Wolfson Foundation  and Awards for All.

Schools’ outreach programme
Each year, alongside our productions, we run a number of workshops for schools reaching disabled and non-disabled children and young people.   Over the past two years this work has been supported by a number of funders including Aldgate and All Hallows Barking Exhibition Fund, Ernest Cook Trust, Equitable Charitable Trust, Hackney Parochial Charities, Leathersellers and the Thistle Trust.

Artistic programme
Trusts and foundations also support our touring programme, which takes our unique productions across the UK.  Last year the Zochonis Charitable Trust and the Sir John Fisher Foundation supported the costs of touring Signs of a Star Shaped Diva.

Learning programme
Our training and learning programmes for artists include street arts performance training, support for emerging writers and continued professional development for actors. Over the past two years these programmes have been supported by a number of funders including the City Bridge Trust, Esmee Fairbairn Foundation and Trust for London.

Vans and equipment
Each year we need to purchase essential equipment to deliver our programme of work.  Last year we raised funds for a Brailler and this year we are focusing on raising funds for a new van, used in tours and workshops.  We have currently received funding from the Equity Trust Fund, Awards for All and the Garfield Weston Foundation for our van and have a further £15,000 to raise.

Donations
As our core costs are primarily covered by the Arts Council England all of your donations are spent directly on our programmes of work.

You can donate online here.

Funding can be spent in one of four areas:

Schools outreach programme
Each year, alongside our productions, we run a number of workshops for schools reaching disabled and non-disabled children and young people.

A donation of £1,000 pays for one outreach workshop, reaching 30 young people

Artistic programme
Trusts and foundations (delete also) support our touring programme, which takes our unique productions across the UK.

A donation of £1,500 pays for British Sign Language translation and interpretation fees for our next production.

Learning programme
Our training and learning programmes for artists include street arts training, support for emerging writers and continued professional development.

A donation of £3,000 pays for a weekend workshop for ten disabled actors as part of our continued professional development programme.

Vans and equipment
Each year we need to purchase essential equipment to deliver our work.  We are currently raising funds for a new van, used in tours and workshops.

A donation of £15,000 pays for the necessary adaptations to ensure that our van is fully accessible to the staff, cast and crew who use it.

Corporate giving
We have a number of sponsorship opportunities, including branding on company vehicles and at our street arts events, which attract audiences of up to 15,000.  We are constantly seeking opportunities to work with sponsors to achieve shared objectives. In particular we want to work with companies whose values and activities are consistent with our own, in celebration of the arts and the work of deaf and disabled artists.

Legacies
Legacies can help ensure that our artistic and learning programmes can inspire and support generations to come.  Your legacy gift could enable Graeae to develop, innovate and fund a range of strategic projects that will make a lasting contribution to our future and that of artists and audiences across the UK.

Leaving a legacy to Graeae will contribute to the development of innovative theatre for generations to come.  We are currently developing information on how to leave a gift to Graeae in your will – in the meantime, for a confidential discussion, please contact Judith Kilvington, Executive Director on 020 7613 6910.
