Blasted
The nationwide tour of this production which took place in Spring 2006 received acclaim from audiences and critics alike, and when the show was revived at the Soho Theatre in January 2007, it was a sell out success.
Graeae is your guide through Kane’s dark landscapes of human longing and cruelty - from a gleaming hotel room, where two ex-lovers meet, through threats and spite to personal brutality and further, as violence seems to spread like a virus until our world seems engulfed and all is damaged.
Blasted is a shocking, divisive play which sees petty cruelty escalate into shattering abuse. Its first performance was both heralded as a masterpiece and condemned by the Daily Mail as 'a disgusting feast of filth.' It is a harsh play, but there is also lightness and a hope in this fierce report from love’s bleakest battlegrounds.
With just 5 Plays, Sarah Kane changed the face of British Theatre. Blasted is where it all began...
"Brave, strong and uncompromising performances, touched with a terrible wounded aggression; the power of the experience is undeniable." The Scotsman ****
