A New Home for Graeae!
Bradbury Studios, 138 Kingsland Road
Thanks to an award of £2.03 million by Arts Council England through the Lottery Programme, Graeae has now moved to a groundbreaking new workspace in East London.
The new offices and state-of-the-art rehearsal space have access at the core of the design. This is the first of its kind in the UK and continues Graeae’s role as a force for change in disabled theatre and in progressing mainstream theatre.
Graeae has been working with Artillery Architecture and Interior Design, to convert the former tram-sheds on Kingsland Road in Hackney into a building which will be a visible model of inclusive creative practice.
Everything has been informed by Graeae's unique approach to creative access: from tactile flooring to sensitive heating systems, acoustics and scented trees to adaptable work services and bright stylish WCs. The space has an urban yet off-beat feel and is a world away from the institutional buildings often associated with disabled people.
We are delighted with our new office and it seems the British Council of Offices share our enthusiasm. they awarded us the Best Office under 2000m2 in the London category. They also nominated us for the innovation award in the National Finals. Wish us luck!
